Recipe: Black Forest Cake

For Philip’s birthday he requested a Black Forest cake. I had not made one before, but priding myself on my baking skills, I endeavored to try it. I found a simple recipe that allowed for a few short cuts and modified it a bit.

And here’s my rendition:

I left out the kirsch and instead of using chocolate shavings, I made chocolate crumbles from dark chocolate chips.

Simply seal the chips in a bag and smash with a hammer.

This was a great stress relief too! Philip even helped.

I also used more sugar when making the frosting. The amount listed simply didn’t give me the form and texture I wanted.

And here’s my finished product!

Not as pretty as I wanted, but it tasted great!
